Emotions are created by thoughts. Change your thoughts and the emotions will change. Observe the thoughts as they arise in the mind. Treat them as guests and, if they are negative, ask yourself if you want them in your mind. If you don't, think other, better things. Emotion is the energy in motion generated by a divisive, or a unifying thought. ANY divisive thought, often a judgement, will create a "negative" e-motion. ANY unifying thought will create the emotions of love and joy. If the habit is of thinking fearfully and with self and other events and people in a critical way, negativity will be high and depression will occur, because a separation will be created in the mind. If you don't like it, as I said, change your thinking. There is no other cure, and it is NOT a biological disease, but a psychological state which will have real physical effects. The neuron-pathways can be changed at will, just like reprogramming computer software. Promoting depression as a disease will only further strengthen dis-empowerment of individuals and drive them to resort to legal and illegal drugs, which will further weaken the will to improve by a false justification: a new affirmative negative to continue along a path leading even deeper into despair.
Meditation, fresh air, early bedtime, good food and water for the mind and the body are better medicine.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or P.T.S.D. could be also called "Past Time Superficial Description".. and we all have these, in some ways.

We need to ask: what is our understanding of the event?

How has the individual processed the meaning of a certain event?

If the understanding, or decoding is incomplete, the unanswered questions will remain alive in the consciousness in various manifestations.

Dreams will be either disturbing, or suppressed. Stress is likely to effect the body by impacting specific locations and organ functions.

The mind will create alter-egos in an attempt to protect separate functions, etc.

A survey of sufferers and non effected persons, with the appropriate questionnaire, would reveal their current state of decoding of the events, their assigned meanings and may be used to highlight the differences.

Meditation is far more desirable than medication; it can be very successful. Medication is often a temporary relief, or permanently block normal psychological functions and may be used as a band aid.

There maybe beliefs creating circular ideological obstacles to this practice; beliefs which need to be intellectually addressed before the fear of the "unacknowledged" can be dismissed and meditation as pure observation can open the door to enlighten the mind and heal the body, by recognition, acceptance and release. Some questions have to be answered, or else they will grow into persistent demons.
